Aarya Agarwal​
Aarya Agarwal is a first year from Austin, TX in Hopper College. He is planning to major in some combination of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Economics. As a YEA Fellow, he hopes to learn how to approach our greatest problems, from climate change to pandemics, in the most impactful way.

Ahmed is a first year in Hopper College hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana. His primary interest in International Politics gravitates him towards approaching problems by analyzing them from various perspectives and seeing how they fit into a comprehensive whole. Through YEA, he hopes to discover more specifically how he hopes to channel his passions and academic interests into real-world benefit.

Ana Sofia is a first-year at Pauli Murray college potentially majoring in Economics and exploring the other social sciences. She is passionate about philanthropy and is interested in learning the methodologies of smart giving and high impact altruism. Ana Sofia is specially interested in global poverty, social mobility, and gender inequity.

Aranyo is a first-year from Kolkata, India, intending to major in CS and Psychology. By day, Ray is a mild-mannered freshman juggling classes. By night (and most weekends) he is, by turns, a not very mild-mannered harmonium player, a poetry enthusiast, an aspiring neuroscientist, a reader of science fiction novels, a terrible gardener, and an okay cook. At YEA, he aspires to bridge the gap between change and making, and understand how changemakers can optimize resource use in a rapidly changing world.

He is currently undecided (and feels  a lot of impending doom regarding) what he wants to end up doing in life, and he hopes effective altruism is a way to examine the best possible practices that lead to the best possible outcomes.

Ben is a junior(-ish) in Grace Hopper college majoring in economics with an interest in sustainable development and global inequality. This semester, he is taking a leave of absence to live with friends in New Haven and work remotely at an environmental economics consulting firm. While he has some familiarity with Effective Altruism, he is looking forward to the fellowship as a source of conversations and community that will help him go from principles to action. In his free time, Ben enjoys singing Russian folk music, hiking, going for long bike rides, and consuming science fiction in any medium.

My name is Charlie Karner (he/him) and I am a first year in Morse College from a suburb of Chicago, IL (counterintuitive from the photo with the Golden Gate Bridge, but just trust me!) I am interested in studying something within the Social Sciences, Creative Arts (with an emphasis on Music), Political Sciences, and more. In any of these areas, I hope to embody the ideals of Effective Altruism by doing the most good in an authentic, resourceful way: it is my goal to merge both the head and the heart in approaching our most pressing world challenges.

Danielle is an MD-PhD candidate in the departments of Genetics and is originally from New Mexico. She plans to pursue neurosurgery and basic science research as a career and has vast interests including: emerging technologies, health equity, and climate change. She is particularly excited to meet other Yale scholars interested in working together to make the world a better place.

David is a first-year student from Montreal hoping to double major in philosophy and cognitive science, so as to engage with both moral philosophy and moral psychology. He is particularly interested in animal ethics and understanding how we might reshape our psychological attitudes towards nonhuman animals to better incorporate them into our circle of compassion.

She wants to complete research in the data science field with an emphasis on Big Data. Her interest in Effective Altruism was sparked from tutoring elementary students for state tests, and she is looking forward to exploring the interdisciplinary aspects of YEA!

Marcelo is a Chemical Engineering major passionate about tackling the climate crisis. In applying effective altruism, Marcelo currently focuses on what he believes is high-impact work in developing carbon removal solutions. Marcelo enjoys dissecting meaningful problems and is excited to learn more about how effective altruism applies in a broader global context and the high-impact issues it identifies.

Peter is a 3rd year MDiv student at Yale Divinity School, with Andover Newton Seminary, seeking ordination in the UCC. Before he came to YDS, he studied for four years at Doane University in Crete, NE, where he graduated with a BA in History and worked on fundraising and Development with their Advancement Office.  Due to Covid-19, he is back in his hometown of Kansas City, KS, but he plans to return to New Haven in the Spring. Peter is excited to be part of YEA, because it offers an amazing opportunity to live his Call and collaborate with driven individuals from fields and specialties outside of his own.

Just prior to coming to Yale, Romero completed his Family Medicine residency training at UC Davis Health in Sacramento, CA, after having completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania (Economics major, Music minor), medical school at UT Southwestern, and his Masters of Public Health at UT Houston. Romero is ecstatic to be a part of Yale EA, as this will enable him to continue in his vocational calling of maximizing his contribution to society through collaboration with visionary and diverse individuals from disciplines inside and outside of his own.

Joseph Levine​
Joseph is an economics pre-doctoral researcher in Sierra Leone, working on development projects run, in part, by the Yale Research Initiative on Innovation and Scale (Y-RISE). Previously, he worked as a junior aerospace economist for Bryce Space and Technology, supporting the NASA Chief Economist, the Air Force Office of Commercial & Economic Analysis, and commercial space companies.

Cameron is a rising senior, pursuing a BS in cognitive science. He is a drummer in two bands at Yale, co-founded the Yale Depolarization Initiative, and works in the ACT Lab where he researches and develops computational models of human behavior. He is particularly interested in the overlap between EA and the ethics of artificial intelligence. Within this field, he is excited to discuss both the risk that these technologies pose to human flourishing as well as the potential for AI systems to themselves become sufficiently computationally advanced so as to deserve serious moral consideration of their own.

I am an incoming first-year student from Rwanda, and while I am undecided on a major, I am interested in philosophy, political science, gender studies, and history. Also, I love learning about all kinds of things, and, lately, in pursuit of new cognizance, the long-referenced correlation between knowledge and responsibility has become more apparent to me. And so, I hope that through this fellowship, I will gain a better understanding of what my responsibility in the betterment of the world is and how I can best fulfill it.

Francis Yang
Francis is a first year master's student studying Social and Behavioral Sciences and Global Health at the Yale School of Public Health. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a dual major in Molecular Biology and Anthropology in 2018 and worked for 2 years in clinical research targeting at-risk populations before returning to school. He hopes through the fellowship to meet similarly motivated peers and gain a myriad of newfound perspectives that can inform and strengthen primary health care domestically and internationally.

Norman is a doctoral candidate in U.S. history. Originally from Santa Cruz, CA, he studied History at Stanford (A.B.) and Yale (M.A. and M.Phil.). Now back in New Haven to finish his dissertation, he’s excited to study effective altruism with members of the YEA community and fellowship and to do more good, especially in the area of farm animal welfare.

She is passionate about using quantitative methods and development economics to tackle rural poverty in Southeast Asia. Yihui is a 2nd year graduate student at the School of Public Health, specializing in Environmental Health Sciences. She finished her bachelor degrees in Environmental Science and Environmental Economics at Renmin University of China in 2019. She is broadly interested in climate change and health, education, sustainable food system, health education and AI-aided clinical diagnostics, and she has previously worked in several international NGOs in the environmental and public health fields. She is excited to learn more how to maximize those good impacts and also eager to learn more good global causes through YEA.

Kennedy Nduati
Kennedy is a sophomore from Nairobi majoring in Psychology and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. He hopes to apply the different frameworks and methods learnt through the Yale Effective Altruism Fellowship in his quest to make mental health and wellness accessible to marginalized and neglected communities especially in low-income African countries.

Prastik is a rising sophomore in Grace Hopper College hailing from the New Haven, CT area, and is intending to study Economics and Political Science. He is extremely excited to engage as a Fellow with the Effective Altruism community at Yale, to serve his personal mission of maximizing his social impact on his local and global community. Outside of the Fellowship, he hopes to continue spending time with his friends and family, exploring new languages, and binge-watching TV shows whenever he gets the chance.
Noah Humphrey
Noah is a 1st Year Masters of Divinity student at Yale Divinity School remotely studying at home in Honolulu, Hawai’i. A native of South Central Los Angeles, he wishes to become a pastor and a chiropractor that utilizes prayer to one day provide support via holistic care in marginalized and de-spirited communities. Currently he is mentoring youth in tai chi and spiritual leadership. He recently graduated from Whittier College in 2020 with a Bachelors in Religious Studies and a minor in Holistic Care. Elen Aghekyan​
Elen is a first-year MA student at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. Before Yale, she worked for several years as a researcher, diagnosing the social and political problems of backsliding democracies. She is ready to shift from identifying problems toward creating solutions for them, and is excited to explore Effective Altruism as a philosophy and guide for her own personal theory of change. Elen grew up between Yerevan, Armenia, and the southern United States, and loves to solve crossword puzzles, hike, and run long distances.

Khalid is a Master of Advance Management candidate at Yale School of Management. Prior to Yale he worked as a strategy professional at The Coca-Cola Company where he led channel strategy projects and performance management for 6 regions in Nigeria. He joined the MAM programme to shift gears to pursue a path that is more aligned to the intersection of business and economic development. He believes strongly in the power of entrepreneurship and innovation as a driving force for economic prosperity, especially in the African continent. Peter is a 2nd year MDiv student at Yale Divinity School, with Andover Newton Seminary, seeking ordination in the UCC. Before he came to YDS, he studied for four years at Doane University in Crete, NE, where he graduated with a BA in History and worked on fundraising and Development with their Advancement Office.  Due to Covid-19, he is back in his hometown of Kansas City, KS, but he plans to return to New Haven in the Spring. Peter is excited to be part of YEA, because it offers an amazing opportunity to live his Call and collaborate with driven individuals from fields and specialties outside of his own.

Rabhya Mehrotra is a first-year in Yale College, from the Washington DC metro area. She hopes to study computer science and anthropology, and would like to pursue a career in international poverty reduction. Isabel Coleman grew up in Birmingham Alabama.  A prospective philosophy major, she has always been interested in confronting moral dilemmas systematically.  She was drawn to the YEA community when she realized that they had been doing that for years, and making an impact doing it.

Hannah Beinecke​
Hannah Beinecke is a student at the School of Management, taking this year off to work on her startup Greater Good Solar (greatergoodsolar.com).  Her previous experience was mostly in international development, working projects spanning marine conservation in Madagascar, education and sanitation in India, energy policy in France, and most recently investing in financial inclusion products in India.

Jordan Pilant​
Jordan Pilant is in Silliman College class of 2021. Jordan has been a member of the Mock Trial team for the past two years and is very interested in the law and bringing about positive change to the judicial system. Jordan is also on the Yale Dramat Associate Board and produced “Creature” in the fall. She also volunteers with Yale's No Closed Doors and finds it extremely fulfilling. She hopes to learn how to make a positive change in the Yale community and beyond through her time in YEA.

Alannah Maynez​
Alannah is a sophomore majoring in psychology from Portland, Oregon.  She got involved in YEA because the more she learned about the organization and the people who are a part of it, the more she realized it aligned with my most important values of compassion and service.  She's particularly interested in how YEA can teach her the best, most moral way to maximize the amount of good she can do for certain communities, particularly the queer community.

Ananya Kachru​
Ananya is a first year student at Yale and is interested in the nexus between politics, women empowerment, and education. She is from Woodbridge, Connecticut (yes! only a little more than five miles away from Yale!). Ananya is excited to learn more about effective altruism, especially in the context of social enterprises, to better understand how to maximize beneficial impacts. In addition to taking part in the Yale Effective Altruism fellowship, she is a part of the Yale Debate Association, South Asian Society, Yale Splash, and Women's Leadership Initiative. In her free time, she loves to travel, dance, take photos for VSCO, browse through inspirational quotations, and just talk about literally anything.

Ally Soong
​Ally Soong is a sophomore in Yale College.  She chose to do the YEA Fellowship, because she was looking for a space and a community in which to work through issues of ethics, morality, and altruism. In the transitory period of growth and change that is college, she wants to challenge herself to sit with these difficult questions as she figures out the kind of life she wants to lead going forward.
Bianca Li​
Bianca is a senior in Yale College majoring in cognitive science. She is broadly interested in how people allow morality to influence their decisions, and feels fortunate to be a YEA fellow so that she can develop a deeper understanding of this inquiry. After she graduates (*cries*), she plans to go to law school and work in criminal justice reform.
Elizabeth Hopkinson​
Elizabeth Hopkinson is a first-year student in Yale College who plans to pursue a field of study relating to public or environmental health. She chose to participate in the EA Fellowship in order to discover more about how to maximize her own positive impact within a community of like-minded students. Through participating the in Fellowship, Elizabeth hopes learn more about the framework of EA while challenging her own preconceived notions relating to service and giving.
Gabrielle Molina​
​Gabrielle is the founder and executive of Teaching Artists International, a 501c3 nonprofit that connects musicians to socially- driven music programs around the world. Her background focuses include nonprofit leadership and public education. She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching focusing on the intersections of music education and social development and three undergraduate degrees in Clarinet Performance, Spanish, and Global Studies. She is honored to be part of this fellowship and looks forward to using EA frameworks and concepts to make better informed decisions.
Grant Higerd​
​Grant Higerd is an MD/PhD student studying the neurological mechanisms of pain, with the goal of developing new classes of pain treatments. He hopes to become a psychiatrist-scientist and do research to develop more effective medicines and interventions for conditions such as chronic pain and substance use disorders. He is excited to become a part of the EA community and learn concepts that will allow him to do the most good through his career and personal life.

Jessica Church​
Jessica Church is a first year student at Yale Divinity School pursuing a Master of Arts in Religion focused on how Christian theology and ethics can inform politics, activism, and public policy. She is glad to be part of the Effective Altruism Fellowship because it will provide a different framework through which to explore "doing the most good." Jessica comes to Yale after working for five years in Democratic and progressive politics.

Nancy Wu​
Nancy chose to participate in the fellowship because of her interest in and past experiences in social entrepreneurship. For an instance, at the height of the Syrian refugee crisis, she organized 15 kids in her high school to help run a business venture selling international cultural items on Taobao (China's Amazon) and raised 2,000 euros through profits to donate to Zataari, the second largest Syrian refugee camp.
